Someone asked me what I know about Cincinnati. (Not via email, so you see, this is not an OPA in the purest sense of the form. But, hey, keep those questions coming; I’m accumulating a good stockpile of entries to come.) What’s formed my impressions, mainly two things:
Over the Rhine: First heard their music early to mid-90s; Patience was the first CD (I heard). If you don’t know their music, you will be glad to come to it. (Lots of MP3s on the website, always.) I remember learning that they took their name from the city neighborhood that I’m looking forward to seeing firsthand tomorrow. According to what I’ve read [see earlier "learning" link, wikipedia], Over-the-Rhine is one of the largest National Historic Districts in the United States, treasured for its massive collection of 19th Century Italianate structures. The City Music Hall is absolutely fabulous in the photos — sorry, follow the links — I’m all too tired for more of the exact linking at the moment.)
In fact, too tired having just got here and now needing to get ready to go for dinner, etc. and so on, to go into the second thing for now, and maybe I don’t entirely want to give it up just yet anyhow… am savoring it, an old story … to see where it goes; maybe it will take me to something/some new story. Or not. Maybe it will just be a teaser here, after all, and I will later come back to it, to tell it here. If it comes to nothing more, percolating now as it is.
Maybe I will leave you with something else then, instead. Driving up here, just around the Scioto River, I think it was, there was an area set up for commerce, side of the road, with signs: Frank’s Deer Urine For Sale. Huh?
