Typing in this entry’s title, I realized it could seem intentional or even a bad pun, and if I had more time, more whatever it is that it could take to do it, I’d come up with something different, but this post is meant literally. Ted Kooser’s poem On the Road, for everywhere you can read about Donald Hall named 14th (US) poet laureate today, which is right and good, but I wanted to pay some tribute to Kooser, number 13, especially since I received for Mother’s Day a copy of his Delights & Shadows, I just happened to be reading these poems lately.
On the Road
By the toe of my boot,
a pebble of quartz,
one drop of the earth’s milk,
dirty and cold.
I held it to the light
and could almost see through it
into the grand explanation.
Put it back, something told me,
put it back and keep walking. – Ted Kooser

Perfect selection!
This is a beauty, isn’t it?
Check out James Wright.
Paul, I *do* like James Wright. “To the Muse” comes to mind.
